One of the best parts about the Memorial Day Weekend in Vacaville is Fiesta Days!
Fiesta Days has been a tradition in Vacaville for nearly 60 years and began as a celebration of the city’s Hispanic and Western cowboy heritage. The town literally goes into Fiesta mode for the entire week leading up to the Memorial Day Weekend, culminating with the Fiesta Days Parade on Saturday. This is an event I have either participated in or viewed from the sidewalk for just about every one of the 56 years I have lived in Vacaville.
This year, I will be participating with my fellow members of the Vacaville Soroptimist, an International organization of women volunteers who help women and girls in the community achieve economic and social empowerment through programs and resources centered around education and mentoring. Membership in this organization is very special to me and I am very proud of the help we offer for young women and girls in our community.
Just a few entries behind me in the parade, my 8-year granddaughter will be walking with Girls Scouts of America. I’m so very proud of her and the community service she is learning while participating in Girl Scouts. I guess the apple does not fall far from the tree!
Enjoy this weekend and come on out to the parade on Saturday for some real hometown fun!
Hope to see you there!
